From the earliest times the Church has never failed to come together to celebrate the Eucharist (or Mass), its most fundamental act. There we fulfill the Lord’s command at the Last Supper, and do today the same as the early Church and the Church through the centuries: we hear the Word of God and partake the Eucharist, and come together into a community of faith around the altar of the Lord.

The Priest has a central role in the Mass as the representative of Christ our head and high priest, but many other people are called to serve the liturgical community. The whole community shares together in the celebration, participating actively in various ways as the priestly people of God. Those who serve at the altar, adults and young people play an important part in the smooth running of the community’s liturgy. All who minister in a special way should understand what they are doing, and recognize that it is a privilege to serve God and the Church.
